I'm not in Williamstown but I do clean up after my dogs when I take them for walks. A box of ziploc bags are $3 and a box of gloves are $10 so it's really not that expensive to be a considerate neighbor.

I think the bigger issue at large for Williamstown officials should not be the matter of abandoned fecal matter, but rather the number of complaints about certain residents not controlling their animals.

As a mother of two young children and a dog of my own that stays on a leash at all times - I have called the police over 10 times on my neighbor because one of her three dogs (usually her pit bull) charging my children in my yard while running loose off their leash.

It was not until the most recent time that I pointed out that they have been called as many times in 17 months, that they FINALLY issued a citation to my neighbor.

At this point, the City of Williamstown should launch an investigation, or in the very least create an easier way to keep track, of mounting complaints.

The lack of response by Williamstown city officials could easily set them up for a lawsuit, if their unresponsiveness to loose dog complaints resulted in a tragic accident.

Most pet owners in Williamstown think enough of their pets to obey this law. But, there are a few who don't think laws pertain to them. I live on a nice corner lot in Williamstown and have one pet owner who brings their dog all the way up to my bay window just to make my dogs bark at them. I'm not sure they ever clean up after their dog. Nothing ruins a good day of mowing like a big pile of dog crap.
