Coach Burke is one of a kind when it comes to coaching. All coaches should learn from his success and longevity. He put is EGO on the shelf and placed the kids as a priority. He would discipline but not in a harsh way. The student-athletes learned the game of baseball and the game of life from Coach Burke and Coach Thrash. From what I saw, the kids enjoyed walking on the field and enjoyed the national pastime. He rarely talked about himself or took credit for wins. He would take responsibility for losses, which shows the true measure of a winning coach. He talked about the kid who hit the game winning single or the young pitcher who struck out the side to end an inning, or his co-coach(Thrash)sharing his knowledge of the game with all players during conditioning and the season. I would want to have a coach like coach Burke and Thrash to help develop any player. He will be missed! I hope he continues to help with baseball in the future.

My family was blessed with knowing the Burkes while growing up; played ball with Larry, his cousins Dave and Mark, and played for Larry's Uncle Bob. No finer folks could be found and I'm pleased to see Larry's accomplishment noted, but more impressed with his humility. Good job, Larry.. now... take a victory lap!
