Way back in the day, in another county, when I was in the 5th and 6th grades, special excusion trains were available on the B.& O. railroad to take grade school children on excursions to Columbus and to Pittsburgh--mostly to see their zoo. You'd be hard pressed to find rail transportation in the state of Ohio today and the United States; you won't find anything the equivalent of high speed European Rail--not zip, nada, nothing. King County, Amtrak, the City of Seattle just finished a multi million dollar, many years project to restore the historic King Street Station back to the day when it opened in 1906. The 14Th busiest Amtrak station, the central station for Sounder Heavy Rail Commuter Service between Everett and the suburbs of Tacoma--about 70 plus miles of commuter rail lines. More trains are coming; none will have the efficiency, technologies of the Chinese National Railway System nor Euro Rail. The technology to build such systems within the U.S.--simply vanished, gone.
