June 25, 2013

WATERFORD — Kelly green and white are still the only official school colors, but Wolf Creek Local officials agreed Monday to allow a little leeway when it comes to black pants on sports uniforms....

Why is black such a terrible color to wear with the white and the green. It looks good. Not to mention, the kids, who wear the uniforms, are the ones that want the black. Why is it such an issue? Who are the people on the board making it difficult for everyone elese? Can't we all just get along?

The color of the band uniforms should represent the high school colors. I have noticed that when black pants are worn, it is harder to notice when a band student is out of step with the rest of the band.

Also, I agree with you about the Warren Board of Ed. They need to get their act together pretty quick. But I am not holding my breath.

@Beagle: That's ok no harm, no foul. It just drives me crazy when a school board focuses on the nit-picky things and old traditions die hard. Remember when girls were not allowed to march in the early years of the Big Red Band in Parkersburg? Things change. I just wish the board would keep their sights set on the big picture instead of making a booster group spend hard earned money on things such as an extra set of pants. Let some kid get an instrument instead and get the chance to participate in that great band program.

Sorry WarrenDad....missed your point the first time. I guess I was trying to say one of the good things about Wolf Creek Schools are the parents/community are always trying to find ways to work with the board/negotiate... not against it like most of the school districts.

Lol! @Beagle so condescending. That is the whole point. Let me explain. The boosters and kids had to work extra hard to raise the money for an EXTRA pair of pants (2 complete sets). The extra money could have been used to purchase more instruments or other supplies that the Director AND students need throughout the year. My point exactly, spend the money on the students not a bunch of extra pants.

Believe it or not this has been an on-going issue between the board, students, parents, and the older generation. But I would rather have this as their hot topic at a board meeting rather than; busing/no busing, finding a superintendent, levy after levy after levy, making sports to pay to play, etc. As far as the band purchasing two sets of pants...the band director, students, and parents all work very hard at fund the pants were covered.

Hardly worthy of a headline story. However, how/why did this become an issue? Black has been used in Waterford's uniforms in different degrees since the early 80's!

Why is this an article?

Soooo, in a time when people are trying to save money due to economic hard times the band had to purchase 2 sets of pants to appease the board? Do they not have anything more pressing to address? Seriously? Oh well if that is the issue you want to be known for in your career tenure.....
