Umm...The article reads "A Vincent man was sentenced to 90 days in jail Wednesday in Washington County Common Pleas Court for growing marijuana in his one-time girlfriend’s home" - and we're talking about circumstances based on IF IT WERE LEGALIZED.

Jeepman said "if you don't want to pay the tax, grow your own". This guy was growing his own and he ends up in prison.

What I know about the DV charges is that his punishment was paying a fine, which is really no punishment at all. Intimidation and violence toward his mate is what the counseling and rehabilitation should focus on, not his use of marijuana.

The number one against it is pharmaceutical companies, number two is Alcohol. - You can't patent anything natural (no chemicals).

@ KOMBATBOOTS - Do you really think people are going to want Marlboro pot? Look at all the crap they add to tobacco to make it more addicting. Secondly, tobacco is tobacco it's graded by how well the crop was, but for the most part, it's all the same smell, taste, and aroma. Pot has millions of cross breeds of flavors, strength, and there are two types -indica and sativa both have different medicinal qualities and effects. To say Tobacco is going to try to get farm fields of pot going isn't even practical. - Research it yourself. They lobby against it because it's not something they can get customers hooked on!!!

If it's being sold from a business, then absolutely tax it like all merchandise. If you don't want to pay the tax, grow your own.

gonefromMOV, why complain about the taxation of legalized pot? I would rather see the consumer of goods pay sales tax than me being forced to pay income taxes to support those who are jailed for possessing or selling it.

I saw someone remarking that tobacco companies are against the legalization. I say, use your head for something other than a hat rack. Tobacco companies as well as the farmers would just have another income producing product to market, they're not against it.

Jeepman, ******e (deliberately misspelled to get by the censors), opium, and morphine are all derived from the poppy. ****** is not a naturally occurring substance.

Taxing it is balderdash. Just legalize it and leave it alone.

Also, people that call it a "gateway drug" are misinformed. It's the likelyhood that searching for it, you'll find other drugs which is true, but if there's a legal dispensary that sells just marijuana, the gateway is closed. Secondly, Marijuana is absolutely not physically addictive. Tobacco, alcohol, and several medications are EXTREMELY addictive, and pain pills are extracted from the drug that stars with "H" (times censors that word)Finally, the main reason it's illegal today is because Big tobacco and Beer companies pay HUGE lobby money keep competition off the market. People who smoke it are going to smoke it regardless of laws. - Since it's not dangerous, tax it!!

Agreed. Alcohol causes more deaths, car crashes, violence, crime, and family problems than pot. It makes me sick that people can drink a bottle of whiskey every night and get a job, but heaven forbid anyone use an all natural flower that makes you mellow and hungry... I've never seen two best friends fight stoned.

Caspiansynn; this is my point overall- it's all out of whack because it is easier to be out of whack...more cost effective...less friction...no?

I live in Mr. Stratton's neighborhood and have known him for a very long time, there is a lot more to this story then will ever be known. He might not have been convicted before but he has a long history of domestic violence and this incident lasted over 3 days. He should be doing hard time for the DV not the marijuana. Its a slap in the face to every woman in the country to give him a small fine for the DV then give him jail and mandatory rehabilitation for the marijuana! Oh and BTW, can we stop trying to rehabilitate pot heads, its long been proven that marijuana isn't addicting so lumping them in with all the junkies isn't helping any one except the courts and the counseling places.

Guys in suits...afraid of their shadows and perhaps 'changing' things that are outright...not helpful and only increase the severity of the problem.

Sad court system. Cannabis should be legal. I see the pill poppers and h addicts getting arrested here all the time and then walking free the next week. If you checked some of the local law enforcement officers closets you would fined stuff a lot worse than a few PLANTS growing.

I feel sorry for this guy. It's far beyond time to legalize marijuana for personal use. Legalize it, tax it, and reap the benefits.
