Tennesseewife. The correct info makes a great deal of difference. I have been tailgated by a car while on a bike. It is no fun. ! I resist the temptation to speed up and pull over instead. I hope your husband recouperates and enjoys riding once again. These are the reasons why I sold my bikes. !! People scare the dog craap outta me in cars on the road, let alone if I do some crazy stuff myself. There are so many distractions now a days that bikers stand very little chance of riding safely...

In fact their Harleys didn't collide. Rocky was in the back not the front. His bike did not slide It flipped across the field. The whole article is wrong. No he choose not to wear his helmet for the second time ever yet his helmet was in his saddle bag & busted. No one of you comment at least his alive & no thanks to the 30 minutes it took for an ambulance to arrive. & the 3rd rider stayed for 15 minutes waiting on help & came to get me to let me know my husband wrecked. & Yes we have helmets. Its your State's Choice not to have that law! No once was there concern on here for these boys. Or the fact a car was riding their back isn't mentioned either & No they were not riding side by side. Thank god my husbands alive. You inconsidered people.

NasCarNut - who said the 3rd rider was a friend? It might very well have just been another cyclist they had crossed paths with who rode with them for a while.

swilson60 - lets get down to the root cause of the death in the accident on pike street that took a young mans life.

It is not whether he choose to wear a helmet or not. His death was entirely the result of a person driving a 4 wheeled vehicle turning into his right of way PERIOD!

If the cager (a person inside the "cage" of a vehicle) had not pulled in front of him he would still be here today even though he wasn't wearing a helmet on that day!

Most motorcycle fatalities are the result of a car or truck pulling in front of or hitting the cyclist. STOP blaming these deaths on helmet use and start placing the blame where it truly lies - with the vehicle drivers lack of attention.

Asknot, I too am sorry about the pain your friends and family are going thru. Appalledresident. I am appalled that citizens like you 1, blame lawmakers for these decisions - you can't legislate intelligence or common sense into people. 2, As a motorcycle rider myself, I knew the risk when I rode without a helmet and sorta accepted that risk. The wind in my face and hair seemed like freedom and to me, worth it. 3, I tried to reduce my risk by wearing a helmet in some areas. Like Columbus, Parkersburg and Marietta on Rte 7, Pike street and some interstates. There seems to be a lot of crazy drivers in those areas and police do not seem to be present there to maintain some traffic order.

It still amazes me how its a personal choice to wear a helmet. If I am driving in my car its not a personal choice for me to wear my seat belt. It's the law. Seems to me I will stand a much better chance of surviving an accident not wearing my seat belt then those of you that don't have to wear a helmet going the same speed on a motorcycle. Guess this is just another example of lawmakers poor judgement.

It's been proven that motorcycle helmets do save lives and help prevent catastrophic injuries--even if some riders still resist wearing them.

sorry about the loss of your friend asknot. I don't want to get in a ******* contest, but in most cases, a helmet WOULD make a difference.

I bet the families and friends of those two locals who died recently from motorcycle accidents wish they would have worn helmets.

Beright, it is not mandatory to wear a helmet in Ohio. Affording has nothing to do with it. Only people that do not ride say that everyone should wear a helmet !!

Forshey said neither Street nor Lee were wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

They can afford a Harley but can't afford a helmet?
