it starts so early in august so all the lazy teachers can get a nice looooong holiday break

it also starts on friday so the teachers have one day to slowly break in to the normal routine.

when it comes to public education the biggest priority is taking care of the teachers and their unions. where is tough guy BOE member Mr. White on this one??

the monkeys run the zoo at FF*** as they do in all other schools across the State

What difference does it make which day of the week the school year starts and what difference does it make whether they start before or after a certain day (eg Labor Day)? The important thing is the quality of the education received. Decades ago when kids were needed to "harvest the crops" at the end of the summer it might have been important to start after Labor Day but I don't think that's the case for most of school age kids these days. I kinda like the idea of finishing the first half of the year by Christmas break and being done for the year in mid May.

Anyone who calls teachers lazy is an unabashed fool. The teachers I know have already been hard at work for most of the summer preparing lesson plans, classroom activities, and mentally girding themselves to deal with people who have been taught that they are simultaneously lazy money-grubbers, tasked with raising the children that parents are too disinterested to, and also destroying the fabric of our society, and doing so with no public funds or respect. If you don't respect teachers, then I cannot respect you or your opinions.
