The Claire E

Marietta sternwheeler’s owner has high hopes

September 19, 2013

A decade ago the historic Claire E sternwheeler, moored on the Muskingum River just north of the Marietta High School boathouse, had been operating as a bed and breakfast under ownership of local......

Asknot. I never said that Dr. Anderson didn't slip up and do some good now and then, but he has a side that some people, including you, may not have seen. You got the information and links to the proof you requested and now you know more about the Doctor than you did before.

Annonamouse - "The investment in the boat has nothing to do with any checks or payroll issues you may have..." I call BS. The money that Dr. Anderson should have used to pay his employees was spent on a decaying shipwreck. Asknot, you have suddenly become silent since the Marietta Ambulance Paramedics showed up in the thread...

I want to draw attention to the fact the boat was not missing for over this these last few months or even this year. To drydock a boat literally means to dock it in a dry place. For the work on the hull to be completed the boat would have been taken out of the water hauled off somewhere, and the work would be done elsewhere. The fact that the boat has remained here says that work has not been done in the past year, at least. The investment in the boat has nothing to do with any checks or payroll issues you may have, beginning this year and was once stated.

To continue, the company neglected to pay me over $2300, then claimed that I was only owed $500, THEN neglected to even pay the $500, while the business owner spent over $100,000 "restoring" a local eyesore.

This is payment after the fact for services rendered, not payment for services in future.

The issue is that Roger Anderson fancies himself a businessman, but is really more like a kid who moves on to the next new toy when the old one gets broken. He neglects his financial obligations, to the detriment of those who once believed in him and his company.

Some of you are asking for proof. Here it is: *******imgur****/a/xUN66

I have read these comments with great interest, as I'm a former Marietta Ambulance Employee who has yet to be paid.

To clarify for some of you, Marietta Ambulance, LLC is/was owned by Anderson Medical Group, aka Roger D. Anderson, M.D. Starting in early 2013, paychecks began bouncing. We were told that it was an IRS issue, and that his assets were frozen, but that we would be paid as soon as possible. Many left the company at that point. Some of us stayed, in the hopes that Dr. Anderson would do the right thing, and pay us what we were owed. The company stopped operations in late April, prior to the $125k outlay mentioned in the article. When the company assets were sold in May, we were promised our pay, when he returned from his vacation the following week. When we contacted his business contact, we were informed that that money had been spent elsewhere already. No pay.

I have heard stories of personal contacts from fellow former employees that I'll keep to myself as hearsay.

Thankfully Dr. Anderson is making sure the boat is structurally sound and wont end up like the Becky Thatcher. It sank after it was moved to Pittsburgh,PA.

Personally I can't believe the negative and inappropriate mud slinging I've read here. I've known Dr. Anderson for almost 40 years, personally,as a patient, and contractor who's done work for him and can only say he's an honest and caring person that has a strong commitment to our community!

asknot - If you want info, talk to local Medics - especially those that worked for Marietta Ambulance. Paid by the hour to perform life-saving services and medical transport with worthless checks. If you take the time to ask around, maybe you'll find that he was also being investigated by the labor board for his payroll problems. Or you could just sit there at your keyboard and keep pretending that you're right and Dr. Anderson's critics are wrong.

isabelle - Perhaps you're the one that doesn't know Dr. Anderson very well. Obviously you have never worked for him and have never had the opportunity to have your paycheck bounce numerous times while your own bills go unpaid. You've missed out on the opportunity to listen to his ridiculous excuses and empty promises to make good on his bad checks. These comments don't mar his character, they bring attention to what little character he has.

So Marietta is gonna run another successful business out of town...No wonder no one wants to invest downtown when the city decides they want more then the original agreement

isabelle, these comments may "mar his character" but his lack of payment has caused much grief and hardship to many people/families.Personally, I believe a man should pay his debts BEFORE he spends on anything else.

Obviously some of you do not know Dr. Anderson very well. He is a kind and generous person, who has done so much to help so many people. If you have a problem with him, perhaps you should speak to him instead of broadcasting such spiteful comments on a public forum. I find it absolutely unconscionable that the Times allows comments that are intended solely to mar someone's character.

Marietta Ambulance Employees? Whay would it be the doctor's responsibility to pay paramedics? Sounds like someone jealous of the Doc's prosperity running their pie holes. I hope we hear how the law suits turn out.

dr anderson does not pay his bills and continues to buy up property, he is becomng a slum lord, he is such a joke, maybe he should invest in the outdoor heaven, or maybe he already has, such a waste of money that he doesnt have. or may be he should just start paying his bills, like everyone else

No asknot, I trash him because he stiffed his employees for thousands of dollars in hard-earned pay while he wasted money on this money-pit. He never did pay them and is facing several lawsuits. You should have the privilege of working for such a useless individual.

Hey Marietta Ambulance employees: This is what Dr Anderson was spending money on while he was writing you thousands of dollars worth of rubber checks and your bills were going unpaid. Feel better now?

Yea they have worked on it a lot this summer if you count taking the tarp of and on. I noticed that the Times took a picture of it from the opposite side of the river, was that to do Dr. Anderson a favor? I have looked at it from the bank above; it’s not a pretty sight. To think this boat will be serving the community anytime soon is a ridicules notion. I am also curious as to where the sewage from this boat goes, are they using a grandfather clause and dumping it in the river for our young rowers down river to wade through?

Amazing man, that Roger Anderson. He can't (or won't) pay his employees or many of his bills, but he spends $125,000 on a boat which he probably will never finish. Let's tighten up that lease agreement and throw his butt OUT.
