Unfortunate that neither candidate has a good background in accounting or auditing.

Unfortunately, we keep getting people running for office with no real experience or capabilities but they are mostly nice people. Almost always, we have candidates who want to be on the public dole for a salary, albeit a small one, but more importantly to rack up pension years. That govt pension is better than most private ones. That's the one big attraction for these people. Especially teachers who get two years of public pension built up for every year they teach while on council.

One candidate wants to rely on her experiences from the past, from 10 years ago. The other is actively seeking out what works and doesn't work. She is actively seeking solutions to existing problems. That's called being proactive, and that's what Marietta needs.

Both have transferable skills, but Mrs. O'Neill is clearly invested in the present and future of Marietta, while Mrs. Harper is mired in her "glory days". My vote is for Mrs. O'Neill.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Willa is Fred's ex-wife.

Mrs. Harper has headed up the Right Path organization since its inception, operating on a shoestring budget. Think that doesn't take any financial experience? She has way more than enough accounting experience for the Treasurer's post. Not to mention she couldn't be more invested in the future and betterment of Marietta. You want to talk about someone looking to pad their pension, sounds like that's Mrs. O'neill to me. Cathy Harper is by far the better candidate here. Good luck, Cathy! You've got my vote!

As a former government employee, Mrs. O'Neil (should she win) will just continue to pill up the retirement at our expense.

WPS, Mrs. Harper will also accrue PERS to add to the amount she made during her time on Council for 7 years.

"I have spent time with Val and her staff (to learn) what goes on in her office," O'Neill said. "I have traveled to other places to look for best practices we could use here."........ and I want to know if Ms. O'neil traveled at her own expense and on her own time to do this research or if she used her position with the State to travel on the taxpayers dime. I bet I already know the answer to that question.

Stogieman, your accusatory tone regarding Mrs. O'Neill is out of line. You have implied that she abused her position with the state to pay for her travel.

SHE RETIRED FROM THE STATE IN OCTOBER 2011!!!!

Tessie, true...Mrs Harper will add to her PERS from time on council. However, while on council she would have been paid $5,000 per year, her PERS account is VERY minimal as compared to Mrs. O'Neil who has been a government worker all her life.

You certainly do not need experience to run for public office. You need a slick campaign and funds. A perfect example is a community organizer who got to be president and who ran on a ticket of “hope and change”.

I DON'T REALLY CARE WHEN SHE RETIRED TESSIE!!!

Quite a snit from you. You vote for Willa and I'll vote for Harper. And I'll take whatever accusatory tone regarding Mrs. O'Neill I want to, since I've watched you and so many on here lay the solid foundation you have to civil disagreement.

What is wrong Tess? Are you only allowed to hurl such comments? From you: "Stogieman, your accusatory tone regarding Mrs. O'Neill is out of line. You have implied that she abused her position with the state to pay for her travel.SHE RETIRED FROM THE STATE IN OCTOBER 2011!!!!"

Wow Tess, you must live in one heck of a glass house! You 'accuse' the mayor, his appointees, and anyone else not in your liberal Rolodex with the very same tone all the time and on a constant basis.

What is that proverbial? Pot calling the kettle black, it's good for me, not thee, do as I say, not as I do...

You show your contempt, ignorance, & sheer distaste too easily Tess. And the beautiful thing of it all, you do it to yourself, & everyone in the area can read it for themselves. Priceless!!!!
