I bought a nice DVD rack at the SA Thrift Shop for $5. I was originally going to go out to Walmart and buy another one of their $20 shelves but my gut told me to go to the Salvation Army Thrift Store. The shelf holds 3x's the amount of the Walmart DVD shelf(so a $60 for $5) and I only paid $5 for it. I also bought a nice microwave/utility stand for $5.

".../while/ the franchisee makes very good money." I can't find any reference to the GW stores being franchises, however, there is much out there about $1MM salaries for some of the executives, and them paying less than minimum wage to some of their disabled workers.

I was able to find what I wanted from the Salvation Army Corps Thrift Store on different occasions including curtains, tablecloths, women's clothes and sometimes at 50% off too.To say that they only sold junk is in no way accurate and truly takes away the good that they do have. They even had a display of clothing that still had tags on them which were certainly not junk.

"One person's junk is another person's treasure."

I agree that the store's footprint was too small, and so was the previous location on Ohio Street. I go "thrifting" when I need or want something before I buy anything new, and have for years. It's fun, economical, and responsible. I refuse to buy from The Goodwill because they are a for profit store. They pay their workers a pittance, will the franchisee makes very good money.

I'm sorry to see the SA close its store. It didn't have to happen.

I wish they would have had a camera installed to record the license plate numbers of the people who dropped off junk at the SA, and charged them accordingly. If a reasonable person wouldn't use the item, then it's not salable, plain and simple.

Sorry to see it close for the sake of those who depend on entities like this for help. That being said, it is also sad to see how some people misuse these thrift stores by palming off all of their unwanted "garbage" that, in some cases, not even the most desperate of individuals would want - leaving the Salvation Army to dispose of their junk to avoid paying to have it hauled off themselves. Sad.

When you consider the general state of the economy, it's not hard to understand why they only had junk....twenty years ago when most folks had good work, they would donate to SA or Goodwill instead of having their own folks are so desperate, they're having their own sale, and take just the leftover junk that didn't sell to SA.

The footprint of the store was too small to achieve sufficient sales; what a terrible place to be located.....and they only had junk.

Such a terrible loss to the community. I have been employed there & not all was junk. Now who is going to help those in the community with clothing vouchers,a place to stay when burned out of your home, or you don't have money for food for your family, your utilities are going to be turned off? Will you say get a job, this is Marietta not much out there. So now go shop at the other "BIG" thrift store, see the prices you will pay there, they do not give back to the community. I pray for those who ran this program into the ground for their own irresponsible decisions. Pretty sad day when you can't even have a Salvation Army Store in the community. You never know when YOU will need help. God Bless
