Stickhauler, I don't know how the story got changed or evolved, but I doubt there was ever any deliberate misinformation. Sometimes it happens, especially over time.

I'd question why they misinformed the family. Junior Nolan is my brother-in-law, I've not known him to spread misinformation in the time I've known him, better than 40 years. If you served with Allen in Iraq, I thank you for your service to our country. But why would they tell the family a different story?

So, you know more of the details of the incident that led to Nolan's death than his Uncle does?

I salute this young man, and offer my prayers for him and his family. A well deserved honor for a fine young man who gave his all for his country.

It is good to see Mr. Nolan's sacrifice honored by the community. Our family's thoughts and prayers remain with the Nolan family.

Correction: Allen was serving with the 660th TC of the Army Reserves, not the National Guard. Also, Allen did not drive off the road and trip a device. The convoy, and his truck, was targeted and attacked with RPGs. The other soldier in Allen's vehicle, Spc. Justin Burgess also suffered severe injuries, but lived. Allen was a good man and exceptional soldier and this is a fitting honor to him.
