PS4: Hot ticket item sells out quickly

November 16, 2013

Patrick Tornes couldn’t wait to get his PlayStation 4, arriving at the Marietta Walmart around 9:30 p.m. Thursday for the midnight release. But he had to wait to play it....

Also coming out the 10th of December is the Retron 5 retro console. With that one console you can play the old NES, SNES, Genesis, Famicom and Game Boy Advance and is also compatible with Super Famicom, Mega Drive, Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges.

It has ports for the old controllers too. But it will feature its own bluetooth controller also. Interestingly it has an HDMI port and "upscales" the video output so that it is smoother than it would normally be.

Thats only a hundred bucks for that.

And honestly the games from those systems are still really good games.

I've got a rather large backlog of PS3 and 360 games so I'm good on the gaming front for a good while.

While interesting I'd rather wait until later to get a new system so the bugs can get worked out.

The PS4 in addition to what has already been mentioned (although I hadn't read about heat issues myself) is experiencing a Blue Line of Death also. The PS4 is failing to communicate with the TV on startup.

That is exactly why I do not buy the first gen of a system.

Also major shocker my PS3 (and my PS2) still work after the release of the PS4. Being a gamer doesn't mean I have to play the newest games first, there are thousands upon thousands of games I never had a chance to play that I can find and play on my old consoles.

I just wait until the initial demand for the units is gone then they aren't hard to find. Also wait until the first price cuts (which isn't really an issue with the PS4 unlike the PS3) Once again I don't buy on launch day because of increase chances of failures that are usually taken care of in the next revision of the unit. Red Ring of Dead (xbox 360) or YLOD or Optical/Bluray drive failures (PS3). Right now failed HDMI ports and what is being termed Red line of death (red line appears before the PS4 shuts down due to overheating; reported before system launched) is what the current PS4 units are facing.

Hundreds of dollars? What a waste of money for a 24 year old.

You could spend a few hundred dollars buying a ps4 or buy a model kit and build it with your child.

I was among the first to buy the Wii U last Black Friday, thinking that I had scored a major Santa coup. The person for whom I'd bought it sold it away before the following Christmas. Major bust.
