tessie, i hope your year finds you in better health. up until 4 years ago i did not get the flu shot...for whatever reason. now that i have been getting it, it appears to be quite effective in reducing the severity of my bi-annual bouts with common sinus and flu problems. consideeration by those that are sick to assist in preventing the spread of their ailment would be much appreicated by those that find themselves in close proximity. it is no surprise that the hopsital which should be the clenest environment harbors the bulk of contagious nasties. stay well and look forward to disagreeing with you on something in the future. :-)

I'm glad the young student is getting a flu shot. What many who work in the medical field don't seem to grasp is that the flu shot isn't about them as much as it is about the patients. From the article: " so I need the shot for protection from any patients that may have the flu". No, you need the shot to protect vulnerable and ill patients from contracting the flu from you.

I would like to see Americans adopt a practice used in many countries, and that is wearing a mask when you are ill but mobile. Coughs and sneezes come out of nowhere when a person has a respiratory illness. A sick person wearing a mask helps protect others from catching their germs.

signed, a vulnerable sick person who gets a flu shot but avoids the public all winter.
