"Councilman Roger Kalter, D-1st Ward, noted a lack of money in the $42.7 million budget for enforcement of the city's recently adopted property maintenance code. He asked fellow council members to work with him to identify funding for that purpose.

"We've got properties that definitely need attention yesterday," Kalter said."

Here we go - knew it was too good to be true. My guess is the codes will never be enforced and responsible/respectable homeowners will still have to endure looking at the TRASH that live in our neighborhoods.

Why did the city not include funding a position in the budget?

As for trash living in rental housing, sometimes, many times in fact, it's the property owner who won't keep the property up, not the tenant. I was really looking forward to the position being funded so there would be someone to force my landlady to do something about the substandard housing that I rent from her.

Tessie, what in your opinion makes your rented home sub-standard? not asking for any other reason than concern. if you don't wish to answer...no problem. i will just hope that they would do the right thing for you.

mold in the basement leaky plumbing, gutters falling off, glazing gone from the windows so the glass moves when the wind blows. A giant crack where a corner of the house is shifting. Just a few of my favorite things

tessie ...thank you for voicing your problems. i am sure you are well aware of your rights under the ohio code as well as your protections against retribution in any way from reporting any legitimate violations. not being totally familiar with your full position in this, you seem by all accounts to have the smarts in which to utilize the law if you desired. but i do understand how the real world works and it saddens me to know that, for your own personal reasons, that you seem to feel trapped by your situation. it is my hope that a solution will be found...and soon.
