Broken. Guns are the great equalizer. They make the brute force of a muscular 20 year old man equal to a 70 year old man, or a woman and equalize the odds of survival.

scandalous, who proposed shooting anyone in the face? lets look at your arm grabbing scenario. if the assaillant uses both of their hands then at some point they will need to let go of one hand which gives one the opportunity to retaliate in some way...gun, taser, eye jab,etc....now consider that one arm is grabbed in a wrap around motion encasing the second arm. well usually if that is the case the perp usually has a weapon of their own in the other hand in which to intimidate... so at that point if you have the opportunity to wrestle a hand free then i say pull your weapon and hit center mass. no other justification needed. tax dollars saved.

If someone grabs you, are you going to shoot them in the face, really? Once your arms are engaged by a stranger it's difficult to do anything with your hands, let alone remove, unlock and fire a weapon. And if you're ready all the time when you walk on the sidewalk, I'm just as paranoid about you as the guy who shot a texter for throwing popcorn in the movies.

Broken, the answer to your question could be that the scourge of society does not hold in high regard the law or the personal space of others. while being armed is one option, the subject of self-defense reveals several options at ones disposal. the suggestions you made are sensible however you must ask yourself...would you want law enforcement to be limited to your proposal? we are our own law enforcement most of the time.

Why is arming everyone with guns always the answer? People wonder why there's gun violence... The sad reality of our society today is that people need to travel in pairs or groups. Mace or a tazer would be quite effective - and not lethal. Campus Police also offers escort for any student that requests it.

Just like the dorm rape not that long ago, a non-student predator, and law enforcement not able to defend her, no fault of Police, just reality. Young women! Get trained in serious self defense. And, MC, wise up about the policy that has your students surrender their Second Amendment rights to "keep and bear arms" to attend your programs. You should be offering really good and legal firearms training on campus. You have a holding pen of attractive helpless sheep and you act surprised when the wolves come in. Expect more, not fewer attacks on the students. It is only logical.
