This is not a "no-brainer". The question is, does Marietta need an additional Fire Fighter long term? When the deployed man's military tour of duty ends, he is expected to return, we hope. Then the overtime expense decreases back to pre-deployment levels, the City has spent money on training and taking on a new full-time employee, difficult to let go. The City occupancy is not growing, so we might question the need for more manpower at MFD. And, do the rest of the Fire Fighters like the extra income of temporary OT money for the short term?
