This is what happens at a chemical company that hires used car salesmen, good friends and relatives while passing on experienced chemical operators. The experience that Krayton turned away for inexperienced new hires should have been a crime. They are lucky these small spills are all they have experienced.

There are two kinds of incidents: ones that are expected in the normal course of business, and ones that are not. Clearly ones that end with something in the creek is not expected (or allowed). Wastewater containment systems exist for the purpose of the one described in this article: valves break, pipes burst, it gets contained, neutralized and dealt with appropriately. Something is out of control there though-- either their process or their people. All of these plants are "as old as the hills..."
