Let's take care of the defendant and not be so hard on him, and forget about the victim!!!! Let us not forget the defense attorney, they to look after the best interest of the defendant.

After reading this article I am appalled. First of all, where are the consequences for committing crimes anymore??? Providing that law enforcement has secured solid evidence per charge, the prosecutor should present all charges and quit "reducing to lesser offenses and to quit dismissing charges". The defendant was going for the officer's gun!!! Maybe he saw the gun was dirty and he was going to clean it for the officer... Oh wait, I forgot, he apologized for his action, claiming it was an isolated incident and he won't drink anymore and made every excuse for his actions. Bring out the violin, we all have receive bad news about family members, but chose not to drink and drive and try to harm an officer of the law. The prosecutor and the judge knew the defendant's history and (same if not similar to current charges), and still gave him a light sentence. I think the new motto of the prosecutor and judges are: (Continued on nest entry)

I had some real hope for Burnworth when he took the bench but I get more and more disappointed every time I read one of these articles and see the sentences he is handing out. This guy is a career criminal and Burnworth even said that himself. Send the idiot to prison! He will be back in that courtroom in under a year

Also, glad to see Judge Burnworth making intelligent and balanced decisions. That's been missing in Washington County. Strict, but fair.

This man should also be assessed for what may be the root of those addictions. He displays signs of severe mood swings, one of the classic indicators of bi-polar disorder. Not an excuse for his behavior but maybe an explanation. Or he could just be a career fool.
