Like you, Tessie, I was surprised at the number of meals that are part of this week, but on closer look it seems to be well-planned. I doubt that any of the meals will be very fancy. One of them is a meal that the students will help make and serve at a local soup kitchen. And the last two meals: "On Thursday, participating students, staff and faculty will share a "last lunch" at 1 p.m. in Upper Gilman. From that point, they will fast for the next 24 hours. They will be further challenged by sleeping outside that night on the lawn between Andrews and Irvine.

The fast will end the following afternoon with a community meal for those who fasted. The "Break-fast" will take place from noon to 1 p.m. in Gilman."

Either I'm missing something or the Hunger and Homelessness week organizers are completely detached from the real world. They are kick-starting the week with a Hunger Banquet and ending with a luncheon as well. Wonder how they would like to experience what real hungry people in this valley experience frequently, i.e. NO lunch, NO banquets, NO food. And how about throwing in No warm bed or cold bed for that matter, NO place to bathe or take care of other personal care tasks.

Seems odd to me that people at the college are going to eat really well while talking about those who might be dumpster diving after the banquet.

Oh, I know! Let's let "them" eat cake.
