There was considerable excitement on the West Side when Harold, the 6-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Wortman, who last seen playing around the river was lost for a time. But a more thorough search revealed that he had gone coasting down a nearby snowy hill.

75 years ago

John E. Klintworth, local insurance man who is attending the sessions of the Ohio State Life Insurance Co. agents convention in Columbus, broadcast a harmonica solo number over radio station WAIU on Saturday morning.

Elaborate plans are in prospect for Camp Civitan for the season of 1933, according to attorney N. E. Kidd, who heads the Marietta Civitan Club. Band concerts will be given at the camp at frequent intervals during the season.

50 years ago

The Warren Local School Board of Education has taken six-month options on land preferred as sites for a new elementary school and high school.

Free polio shots will be given at Marietta Memorial Hospital to preschool children.

25 years ago

Washington County’s unemployment in December jumped to 17 percent, the highest level since 1940, according to figures released by the Ohio Bureau of Employment services. In December more than 5,100 county residents were out of a job, according to the figures. The jobless rate is expected to go even higher in January.
