Wilbur C. Conkey has been named the recipient of the 2008 Community Service Award by the Masons in the 17th Masonic District, which includes Athens, Morgan, and Washington counties.
Conkey has been a community representative serving the Athens County Historical Society and Museum, Boy Scouts of America, and the Albany Volunteer Fire Department. He has been a dedicated member of Albany Lodge No. 723 for 56 years and has been a past master, and has been a member of Athens York Rite bodies for much of that time.
Adam Zachary Bomer of Marietta and Erin McNulty of Little Hocking were honored with the Excellence in Youth Award.
Bomer is a senior at Marietta High School attending Washington County Career Center, where he is an honor roll student. Bomer has received awards for best junior carpenter, outstanding attendance, and student of the month while attending the Career Center. He has served Skills USA as treasurer, and was recently elected regional treasurer. He is a member of DeMolay Marietta Chapter No. 50 serving as master councilor. He is a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, National Civil War Artilleries Association, and is active with Civil War re-enacting. He is a member of the Newport Volunteer Fire Department.
McNulty is an eighth-grader at Little Hocking Elementary School. She is an honor student who enjoys choir and playing handbell and trumpet. She is a member of Job’s Daughters, Bethel 65, holding several offices and currently serving as honored queen. McNulty has been active serving on the district level of Job’s Daughters District 5.
