Barbara A. Brunton
Barbara Ann Richardson Brunton, 83, of Marietta died Sunday evening (March 23, 2008) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 29, 1924, in Columbus, Ohio, to Leonard Edward and Gladys Zollinger Richardson. She was raised in Glouster, Ohio, while attending and later graduating from Columbus School for Girls in Columbus, Ohio, and Ward Belmont Academy in Nashville, Tenn. She also attended Marietta College, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, The Betsey Mills Club and The Marietta Welfare League. For many years she was also involved in the Meals on Wheels program. Barbara was an avid golfer and longtime member of Marietta Country Club.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Rankin G. Brunton, whom she married on June 22, 1945, in Natchitoches, La. She was a loving mother of six children, Gregory (Brian Wolbaum) of Los Angeles, Calif., Geoffrey, Christopher (Candy Davis) and Bruce (Nann) of Marietta, Ann Cohen (Jerry) of Hudson, Ohio, and Susan Reinmann (Jim) of Avon Lake, Ohio. She was an adored grandmother of 14 grandchildren and one great-grandson, Todd, Andrea (mother of great-grandson, Aden Pearson), and Ashley Brunton, Ben and Aimee Brunton, Joanna, Jamie, Jerry and Julie Brunton, Stephanie and Allison Cohen, and Emily, Nicholas and Lara Reinmann. Barbara is also survived by her loving brother, L.E. “Dick” Richardson Jr. (Sharon) of Newark, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her sister, Cynthia Wentis.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Marietta Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home, with the Rev. Craig Butler officiating. Entombment will be at East Lawn Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and up until service time Thursday.
