CHESTERHILL - George Seth Smith, 77, of Marion Street, Chesterhill, died at 5:39 a.m. Sunday (April 6, 2008) at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Chesterhill, a son of Howard and Edith E. Starling Smith.

He was a retired mechanic, having worked for Ryder Truck Rentals in Parkersburg. He was a member of Chesterhill Volunteer Fire Department for over 50 years, a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mount Olive for over 50 years, and a member of Order of Eastern Star.

He is survived by one son, Carl (Debbie) Smith of Concord, N.C.; one daughter, Carol (Jerry) Ford of Marietta; two grandchildren, Trent Roberts of Pennsville, and Kim Roberts of McConnelsville; two great-grandchildren, Laekin Westfall and Seth Roberts.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma Smith; five half brothers, Frances, Joe, Ray, and Wilford Smith, and Clyde Calendine; and one sister, Faye Smith.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Stone-Matheney Funeral Home, Chesterhill, with Pastor Charles Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hermon Cemetery. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
