Trucker robbed

Gunman flees scene near I-77 at Macksburg

April 16, 2008
From staff reports
A trucker reported being robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday after he had stopped for the night in Macksburg, near an adult video store.

Washington County Sheriff Larry Mincks said truck driver Otto Schrader Jr., 34, of Kernersville, N.C., told police that around 12:15 a.m., a white male walked up to his cab, brandished a gun and demanded money.

After he handed him his money, Schrader said, the suspect fled on foot toward an antique store on Ohio 821. The suspect was described as a white man, about 30 years old and unshaven.

Mincks said he could not release the exact amount of money taken, for investigative purposes.

Deputies assisted by a tracking dog attempted to locate the suspect. Officers reported the dog tracked the suspect for a distance but lost the trail.

Mincks said the suspect likely was picked up by a motorist at the point where the dog lost the trail.

Schrader was parked outside Route 77 Video (also known as Adultmart), 19560 State Route 821.

An employee at Route 77 Video declined to comment on the robbery when contacted Tuesday afternoon.

The case remains under investigation, with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation assisting.
