Fashion show to aid MMH hospice program

Marietta Memorial Hospital’s Home Nursing Service & Hospice is holding a “Friends and Trends Fashion Show” Thursday at the Fenton Court at Marietta College.

Hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar begin at 5:30 p.m. The fashion show, featuring a number of local businesses, will start at 6:45 p.m.

Proceeds will benefit the hospice program, which provides care and service to terminally ill patients and their families throughout five counties.

Tickets for the show are sold out, but there are still raffle tickets available at the Home Nursing Service & Hospice office in the Broughton Medical Center, 210 N. Seventh St., Marietta.

The Castle will hold ‘Herb Day’ Saturday

“Herb Day” is being held 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at The Castle, 418 Fourth St., Marietta.

Workshops will start at 9:30 a.m. with John Sims, who will speak on “Creating A Scented Garden.” From 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., the topic will be “Summer-Long Color Using Perennials.” At 1:15 p.m., Eric Barrett will hold a workshop on “Calendula—The Forgotten Herb.”

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the day. There will also be herb luncheons at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., by reservation. Cost for the menu that includes herb-laced offerings is $9.50.

A variety of herbs, gardening and herb books, lotions, soaps and other herbal items will be available for sale.

Mother’s Day concert will feature pianist

The Evergreen Arts and Humanities Series at Washington State Community College will present its third annual Mother’s Day concert featuring pianist Edward Bak at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Graham Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Bak has held faculty positions at The Ohio State University School of Music and the Cleveland Institute of Music Preparatory. He has also presented master classes in South America and was a visiting professor of piano in Seoul, South Korea.
