Gertrude E. Rogers Kern "Grandma Gertie," 94, of County Road Nine, died at Selby General Hospital at 8:25 a.m. Friday (July 11, 2008).
She was born at Cow Run, Washington County, Ohio, on Oct. 31, 1913, a daughter of John Dennis and Ethel Smith Dennis. She was a homemaker and attended Pine Ridge Methodist Church.
On Nov. 13, 1937, she married Albert Rogers who preceded her in death in 1952.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters, Richard Rogers of Nags Head, N.C., John Rogers of the home, George (Elva) Rogers of Newport, Mary Lou (Wayne) Bennett of Newport, Sue (Owen Barrett) Farnsworth of Milltown Road, and Nancy Hines of Milltown Road; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In 1963, she married Peter Kern who preceded her in death in 1964. She is survived by a stepson Charles (Barb) Kern of Churchtown; and two stepgrandchildren.
She is also survived by two sisters, Hazel Baker and Phylena Meiser, both of Marietta.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; grandchild, Michael Rogers; daughter-in-law, Shirley Rogers; two sons-in-law, Gary Farnsworth and Don Hines; four brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
