Firefighters are searching for a cause to an early morning blaze that destroyed a Highland Ridge Road residence.
Around 1 a.m. today, four area volunteer fire departments were called to respond to 4040 Highland Ridge Road.
"When the call came in it was being reported as being fully engulfed," said Assistant Devola Fire Chief Richard Best. "Once you got to Archer Hill you could see it. It took probably an hour just to bring under control."
Two individuals were in the single-story home when the fire started. Their names were not immediately available, but Best said the middle-aged couple escaped the fire unharmed.
About 30 firefighters from Salem, Fearing, Devola and Lowell battled the blaze.
Firefighters remained on the scene until around 5:10 this morning. Fire investigators are expected to return to the scene later this morning to attempt to determine the cause of the fire.
