Quilter's Corner has moved from its downtown Marietta location to a space nearly twice as large.

On May 5, the quilting store moved from Tiber Way to Tennis Center Drive off of Ohio 7.

"The reason was because we needed more space," said Jenice Miller, the store's owner. "I think the last one was 2,100 square feet. This one is over 4,000.

"We can accommodate more stores (of materials), our classroom is twice the size and we can add more inventory," she said.

The new location also has additional parking.

Miller owns the Tennis Center, and had some extra space in the building, so she decided to bring them under the same roof.

"I was amazed at how big it was," longtime customer Colleen Griffith, 43, of Sistersville, W.Va., said Friday on her first visit to the shop's new location. "It has a nice spacious classroom and everything is so much bigger.

"They've always been helpful," she said. "I recently bought a Bernina sewing machine, and they helped me learn to use it. I've also been learning machine quilting and embroidery."

Midge Miller, an employee who is not related to Jenice Miller, said the additional size is a boon to customers.

"It's every quilter's dream to have a shop available to them with this much size and the convenience of a classroom this big," she said.

Jenice Miller said the shop has three employees, but quilters from all over the country also come in to teach quilting classes.

"We have beginning classes, we have advanced classes," she said. "We have something for everybody.

"We have quilting classes, seweing machine classes, embroidery classes and we're hoping to add garment-sewing classes," she said.

Jenice Miller also said they will eventually be able to be open later than usual because of the additional space and new location. The store was open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday. It still has similiar hours, but is open until 7 p.m. on Mondays.

Quilter's Corner has seen a boost in business as old customers come to the store to see the new facility, Jenice Miller said.

"The word I hear people say most is 'wow,'" she said.
