Business workshop covers startup basics

The next Basis of a Successful Start workshop held by the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Marietta is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, at Washington State Community College's Business and Technology Building, Room 103.

There is no charge for the workshop, but registration is required.

Brown Bag lunch meeting Aug. 26

The next session in the summertime Brown Bag Lunch Series sponsored by the Small Business Development Center will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Aug. 26 at the Marietta Area Chamber of Commerce office, 100 Front St., Marietta.

Theme will be "Financial Audit." The sessions are free.

Summertime provides an opportunity for business owners to review their business and check the status of their various systems using the Small Business Administration's "Audit Checklist for the Growing Business."

Local man elected to veterans group's post

James Fernihough of Marietta has been elected to serve as the second vice president of the Ohio State Association of County Veterans Service Commissioners during the association's summer convention in Columbus.

He is surrently serving as president of the Washington County Veterans Service Commission. The state association oversees the 88 Ohio County Veterans Service Offices and implements guidelines throughout the state to address issues associated with veterans and advocates for their entitled benefits on both a local and national basis.
