Barbara C. Dionne, 85, of Orchard Street, Marietta, died at 3:30 p.m. Monday (Aug. 18, 2008) at Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born in Verviers, Belgium, to restaurant owners Charles and Henrietta Close Baudart. In 1937, she graduated from St. Joseph Catholic School in Belgium and helped run the family restaurant, De La Chapelle, through World War II. She moved to Marietta with her husband in 1960 and during the '60s worked at the Wakefield Hotel for two years and then opened her own restaurant, The Bank Restaurant under the former WesBanco building at Second and Putnam streets. During the 1970s after she sold her restaurant, she worked for the American Legion. From 1980 to 2001, she walked 10 miles per day delivering The Marietta Times.
In 1946, she married Alcide W. Dionne, who preceded her in death.
Barbara is survived by two sons and one daughter, Charles Dionne of Houston, Texas, Paul (Nancy) Dionne of Marietta, and Anne (Joe) Sanchez of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren, Michele, Cynthia, Yvette; and three great-grandchildren, Abigail, Annika, and Mark Jr.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m. today with family present from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.
