Kiddie Kicker Soccer to kick off
The Marietta Family YMCA is starting a season of Kiddie Kicker Soccer to introduce 3- to 5-year-olds to the sport in the safety of the Ewing School gym.
Kiddie Kicker Soccer involves groups of a child, a parent and YMCA staff and volunteers working together to introduce kids to this active sport in a comfortable and non-stressful atmosphere.
Kids will be playing in the Ewing School gym at Colegate and Muskingum drives under the supervision of Kara Smith, a veteran of YMCA Kiddie Kickers Soccer and Marietta College.
The program uses the Start Smart program developed in conjunction with the National Alliance for Youth Sports.
It is designed to help children enjoy the sport without getting caught up in the "having to win every game attitude" that has proved to be destructive to youth self-esteem and desire to play competitive sports throughout their lives.
Five year olds play at 9 a.m., 4-year-olds play at 10 a.m. and 3- year-olds play at 11 a.m.
If registrations require, groups may be combined or a fourth session added. Registration is $34 for Y members and $52 for others.
Limited scholarships are available through the Y's Partnership with Youth Campaign, the Greater Marietta United Way and the Washington County Dept. of Jobs and Family Services.
No child is turned away because of a family's financial circumstances.
