Wilson-Newell

Nicole Renae Wilson and David Patrick Newell exchanged marriage vows on May 24, 2008, at a private location overlooking the Ohio River at Willow Island, W.Va.

The bride is the daughter of Judy Kerns of South Parkersburg and Ralph Kerns of North Parkersburg.

The bridegroom is the son of Bob and Debra Newell of Parkersburg.

Matron of honor was Sammie Gaul. Bridesmaids were Lindsey Newell, sister of the bridegroom; Tiffany Lauer; Marsha Bollinger; and Stephanie Boso, cousin of the bride.

Best man was Gerrod Negley. Groomsmen were Shane Dotson, Scott Smith, Grant Fischer and Warrick Smith.

The wedding and reception were held outdoors under large party tents on private land that overlooks the river. The service was provided by Pastor Bill Janic of Salt Lake City, Utah, the bridegroom's uncle.

Music was provided by Nathan Hess, also known as disc jockey Nate Dogg. Pictures were taken by Ralph Newell, the bridegroom's uncle. Wedding decorations were designed and created by Betty Boyd, the bride's grandmother; Sammie Gaul; and Tiffany Lauer.

The bride is a 2002 graduate of Parkersburg South High School and a 2005 graduate of Washington State Community College, where she earned two associate's degrees in criminal justice. She currently works at Westbrook Health Services as a substance abuse technician.

The bridegroom is a 2000 graduate of Williamstown High School, and a 2004 and 2006 graduate of Marshall University, where he earned his bachelor's degree in marketing, and master's of business degree. He currently is employed by Time Inc. as a field sales manager.

The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in the U.S. and British Virgin Islands. They are currently residing in Parkersburg.

Lutes-Simpkins

Dawn Lutes and J.D. Simpkins were united in marriage on Aug. 9, 2008, at Navarre Beach, Fla.

The couple exchanged their vows during a ceremony that took place on the beach at sunset. After the couple exchanged vows they had written, white doves were released.

The bride is the daughter of Ray and Linda Lutes of Williamstown. She is the granddaughter of Clarence Bess Sr. of Cannelton, W.Va., the late Ruby Bess, and the late Paul and Virginia Rhodes.

The bridegroom is the son of the late James and Awilda "Wig" Simpkins of Oak Hill, Ohio.

The couple are residing in Parkersburg.
