Chamber banquet in Beverly on May 2

April 25, 2009
From staff reports

Monday is the deadline for reservations for the Muskingum Valley Area Chamber of Commerce's seventh annual banquet.

The event, scheduled for Saturday, May 2, at St. Bernard's Catholic Church Social Hall in Beverly, is open to the public as well as to all chamber members, according to president Glen Miller. Karl Kesselring, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Waterford, will be the keynote speaker.

"He'll be speaking on surviving and thriving in the current economic crisis," Miller said. "He's a great speaker and uses a lot of humor. I think people will really enjoy it."

Honors to be presented during the banquet include the Founders Award, given to founders of longtime area businesses; the Community Service Award, honoring local service organizations; the Business of the Year Award; and $1,000 scholarships for two area students selected from applicants at Marietta, Fort Frye, Waterford, and Warren high schools.

"This is our seventh banquet, but the chamber's been in existence for 15 years," Miller said. "We currently have about 100 members, and half are from the Marietta area. Others come from Devola, Lowell, Beverly, Waterford, Barlow, McConnelsville and other areas along the Muskingum River valley."

Social time for the banquet begins at 6 p.m., followed by a meal of baked steak or chicken served at 6:30 p.m.

Deadline for reservations is April 27, and tickets may be purchased at the door.

Tickets are $15 per person.

RSVP by calling 740-984-8259, or go to the chamber Web site at www.mvacc.com. Please state meal choice of baked steak or chicken.
