Area church to host monthly gospel sing
The Blennerhassett Church of the Nazarene will be hosting its monthly open gospel sing at 7 p.m. Friday, June 5.
All singers are welcome to attend and to sing. Sign ups will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Summer softball league organizing
The 34th annual Marietta Church Softball League is organizing for the summer season. The slow-pitch league will have both competitive and recreational divisions.
A meeting for interested teams was held May 18 at Hadley Field. Deadline for teams to sign up is Sunday, May 24. Play for the season will begin on June 1.
Churches can combine members as needed to field a team.

'Crocodile Dock' will be the theme of VBS
"Crocodile Dock" will be the theme for vacation Bible school at South Parkersburg Baptist Church, 1655 Blizzard Drive, Parkersburg.
VBS will be held June 22 to 26 with sessions from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. Programs are available for children from age 2 through eighth-graders.

Rummage sale set at church in Waterford
A rummage sale is being sponsored by The Rock Full Gospel Church's financial stewardship ministry from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at the church.
The church is on Ohio 339 at Waterford, beside Turner's Sunoco.

Handbell choir to present two concerts
The Mid-Ohio Valley Ringers, a local handbell choir, will be presenting its 2009 Spring Concert at two different venues.
The first concert will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, May 31, at First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth St., Marietta.
The second concert will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at First Lutheran Church, 1701 19th St., Parkersburg.
The concert will include a mixture of sacred and classical selections. There is no admission charge for either concert.
Greer to be ordained a priest on May 30
Deacon Bradley Greer will be ordained a priest for the Catholic Diocese of Steubenville on Saturday, May 30, at Holy Name Cathedral in Steubenville.
He will celebrate his first Mass on Sunday, May 31, at St. Mary Church in Marietta. A dinner will follow at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Lowell.
Greer made his home at Our Lady of Mercy in Lowell during his time in the seminary.
Band to give concert at Marietta church
Melissa Cox and Mythica will be presenting a concert at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 7, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 232 Third St., Marietta.
Cox, lead singer and primary songwriter for the band, will also perform solo as a participant in the 11 a.m. morning worship service on June 7.
Mythica's songs include Celtic jam, bluegrass, ballads and folk rock. Band members play a wide variety of instruments.
The concert is open to the public. Freewill donations will be accepted.
Sermon on purity, protection, power
Pastor Diann O'Bryant will be speaking on "Purity, Protection and Power" at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, May 24, at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman St., Marietta.
She will also deliver a special Pentecost Sunday service at 10:30 a.m. May 31 on " Mission Possible," based on Acts 1:8. A 24-hour prayer vigil, which will mark the beginning of "50 Days of Prayer," will also be available.
