RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. - Trent McPherson, a freshman-to-be at George Washington High School, carded the lowest round here Tuesday at Greenhills Country Club and for the second time in as many days topped the field in the 13-14 age group of the Top Flite Junior Tour.

McPherson won the first event of the TFJT season on Monday at the Golf Club of West Virginia and fired a 2-under par 70 at GCC.

"My short game wasn't too good and my chipping didn't go very well," said McPherson, who had birdie putts lip out on two front nine holes and had to settle for a pair of pars on two back nine holes which he nearly drove the green on but failed to birdie.

Jared Hammons of Marietta was second in the 13-14 division with a 75 and was followed by Chris Williams of Scott DePot in third with a 77. Corey Wells of Sistersville was sixth with an 87 and Brandyn Offenberger of Waterford finished ninth with a 90.

The 13-14 age group played from the white tees compared to both the 15-16 and 17-18 divisions going from the blue tees. The 12-and-under group played from the women's tees.

"They had a chance to play from those tees when they were my age too," McPherson said of getting ribbed by some of the older competitors he beat on the course.

Nick Huggins of Marietta wasn't going down to defeat for a second day in a row as the Tiger golfer bounced back from losing in a playoff for first on Monday to turning in a 1-over par 73, which was good for victory in the 15-16 division.

"You always leave strokes out there," Huggins quipped. "I played all right and kind of putted pretty good there at the end. I feel good and I'm glad to win."

Huggins' nearest competitor, Elizabeth Frederick of Charleston, shot a 75 on a day when the only other female golfer was Belpre's Natalie Perry. Perry, who just concluded her freshman year as a Golden Eagle and tied for 10th place on Monday, finished just outside the top half of the 13-14 field after shooting a 97.

Madison's Harry Howell was third with a 78. Bryan Neader of Lowell tied for fourth in the 15-16 division with a 79. Jordan Shaffer of Cairo and Connor Padden of Parkersburg both fired 81s in the 15-16 division to tie for eighth.

It took a playoff to decide the champion in the 17-18 division and in the 12-and-under group.

Josh Webb of Parkersburg South, fourth at Monday's event, joined Hurricane's Brian Anania with rounds of 71 in the 17-18 group. Parkersburg's Ollie Fankhauser just missed out on the playoff and settled for third with a 72. On the first hole of the playoff Webb was actually inside of Anania on the par 3, No. 18 hole, as both players hit the green in regulation but had lengthy attempts. Despite Webb being closer, the Patriot golfer missed about a 6-footer for par as the ball went past the edge of the cup. Anania was able to two-putt, the last from inside of 3-feet, to secure victory.

"My putting killed me yesterday and I've been struggling with the putter, but that was a good two-putt," Anania said. "I hit the ball good and all in all I'm pretty happy with the win."

Jacob Hensler of Parkersburg Catholic had a 2-over par 74 and finished in a tie for fourth with Buckhannon's Jeremy Rogers. Matthew Metz of Cairo was the only other local top 10 placer in the 17-18 division. Metz's 75 tied him for sixth with Charleston's Jared Nelson.

Cale Wheeler of Morgantown knocked off Hunter Owens of Oceana on the first playoff hole to win the 12-and-under division. Both players had shot 90 to lead the field.

Third place honors went to Sam Petty of Belpre. Petty and Dylan Cress of Mineral Wells both had 91s and tied with the same score on the first two playoff holes.

However, Petty ended up winning the pitch-off by about a foot.
