John Walker Ray

ZANESVILLE, Ohio - Dr. John Walker Ray, 73, of Zanesville, died at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday (June 23, 2009) at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital Emergency Room.

He was born Jan. 12, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of the late Kenneth C. and Hope Walker Ray. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving as a medical officer with the rank of captain. His education background includes: A.B., magna cum laude, Marietta College, 1956; and M.D., magna cum laude, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, 1960. Dr. Ray founded S.E.O. Otolaryngology.

Dr. Ray is survived by his wife, Susanne Gettings Ray, whom he married July 15, 1961; daughters, Nancy (John) Page of Columbus and Christy (Dr. Tom) Paumier of Canton; grandson, Grayson Gettings Page; sister, Beverly (Dan) Klincko of Canton, Ga.; brother-in-law, David (Johanna) Gettings of Williamstown; nieces, Shannon (Rev. Aaron) Gooden of Hurricane, W.Va., Kelle (Matt) Ford of Canton, Ga.; nephew, Kyle (Heather) Klincko of Sugarhill, Ga.; and cousin, Dr. Clark (Joyce) Bowman of Charleston, S.C.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and aunt, Mildred Ray Bowman.

Family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today (June 26, 2009) at Bryan & Snider Funeral Home, 2318 Maple Ave., Zanesville.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday (June 27, 2009) at Central Presbyterian Church, Sixth Street, Zanesville, with Pastor Ray Morrison officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to Central Presbyterian Church, Fellowship of Christ Community, c\o Central Presbyterian Church; Eastside Community Ministries; or the Animal Shelter Society.
