BEVERLY - Well aware of how humbling golf can be on the best of days, Josh Webb was entirely pleased with his round Friday on the second stop along the Mid-Ohio Valley Junior Golf Association.

The 17-year-old Webb shot even par at Arrowhead Pines Golf Course, offsetting a pair of bogeys with a pair of birdies and emerging with a three-stroke victory over Jordan McIntyre and Zach Warren, who matched 75s.

"I wanted (to shoot) that or under," said Webb, a recent Parkersburg High School graduate who plans to pursue a career as a club professional. "I was just trying to go out and make par on every hole by hitting greens and fairways, up and down."

Webb bypassed Thursday's MOVJGA event at Northfork Valley Golf Course in Lubeck, W.Va., as he competed in the W.Va. Open at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling.

"We're all friends so we just go out and have fun," Webb said. "I just hope everybody keeps playing and makes it fun with more competition."

Webb's summer schedule is filled with a variety of junior tournaments.

"I'll probably play at least 20 or 25 tournaments a year," said Webb, a contender for the State Farm Player of the Year point title in the 17 and 18 age division the Top Flite Junior Tour in West Virginia.

With Webb, it isn't so much of a commitment as it is an investment into the future. Webb has enrolled in the professional golf management program at Campbell University. Webb credits his older brother, Jeremy, with getting him interested in golf.

Matt Hess, a recent Parkersburg South graduate, followed up Thursday's low round of 73 at Northfolk Valley GC with a 79 at Arrowhead Pines to finish sixth overall and seven shots behind Webb.

Hess is the defending MOVJGA champion, but the actual low score was lodged by Jared Hammons in the 13 to 15 age division with round of 69 from the white tees.

In the 12 and under age division, Adam Keadle managed a 47 over nine holes and edged 11-year-old Adeena Shears of Elizabeth, W.Va., by a single stroke.

The next venue on the Mid-Ohio Valley Junior Golf Association will be Lakeside Golf Course in Beverly July 1.

"Everyone is even," Webb said. "Everybody plays about the same. I mean, they have their good days and their bad days."

McIntyre salvaged his round with an eagle on the final hole he played.

"I've only played here a couple of times, but that's my best round," he said. "That should have been a little lower. I took a triple (bogey) on a par-three hole over on the back nine."
