EXTRA: Murder-suicide; Motorcycle crash; Stimulus report

Staff and Wire Reports
POSTED: July 8, 2009

MURDER-SUICIDE IN MORGAN COUNTY:

Investigators believe a Morgan County man killed his sister and set her home on fire, then took his own life Tuesday.

Killed were Rosemary Brown, 55, of 7200 Frash Road, Deerfield Township, and her brother, Charles Turner, 61, of 7870 Brown Lane, according to a release from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office.

The release does not indicate how Brown and Turner died or precisely when.

Neighbors reported two fires around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, the sheriff's office says. Firefighters responding to the Frash Road scene found the home completely engulfed. As they battled that blaze, they heard another explosion from the north.

Because multiple explosions and possible gunshots had been reported, law enforcement personnel went to the Brown Lane scene, the release says. Turner apparently blocked the road with cut trees, forcing deputies to walk onto the property.

There, they found the trailer on fire, as well as two vehicles. They also discovered Turner's body. It was not immediately clear when Brown's body was discovered.

The investigation continues, with the sheriff's office assisted by the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification, the state fire marshal's office, the Morgan County coroner and the M&M Volunteer Fire Department.

TWO HURT IN MOTORCYCLE CRASH:

Alcohol is suspected of contributing to a Tuesday evening motorcycle crash that seriously injured two people, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

The 9:18 p.m. crash occurred when Jack Lightfritz Jr., 48, of Waterford, drove off the right side of Ohio 821 near milepost 5 and lost control of his 2007 Harley Davidson.

Lightfritz and his passenger, Delma Farmer, 39, of Lowell, were ejected from the bike after it struck a ditch and overturned, according to Lt. Mary Pfeifer of the patrol's Marietta post.

Lightfritz and Farmer were transported by squad to Marietta Memorial Hospital. Farmer was later flown by medical helicopter to Grand Medical Center in Columbus where she was listed in serious condition Wednesday afternoon.

Lightfritz is in stable condition at Marietta Memorial, according to a hospital official.

Neither passenger was wearing a helmet, Pfeifer said.

REPORT SAYS STIMULUS HELPING OHIO:

COLUMBUS (AP) - A new government report says President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package is helping Ohio keep tuition down at public universities and continue providing health care to targeted populations, including pregnant women.

In a report released Wednesday, the Government Accountability Office says stimulus money injected much-needed revenue to the state budget. As a result, cuts to state agencies were less severe. But Ohio still faces a deficit, and Gov. Ted Strickland and Republican lawmakers remain deadlocked over how to balance the budget.

The report says Ohio expects road and bridge projects funded with stimulus money to be completed within three years. The lone exception is the replacement of the Interstate 90 bridge in Cleveland, which will take four years.

Murder - suicide I am the daughter of the infamous Charles Turner and the niece of the alleged "victim" my aunt Rosemary. May peace be with all involved. I pray for their souls. Heed the warning signs of your loved ones, and know if they don't talk about their plans, there is nothing you COULD HAVE DONE to have a different outcome. Some issues stay in families for years. NO ONE knew my Father on an intimate level as well as his wife, my mother, and I did, or do. I love both VICTIMS involved!

Distributing the stimilus cash, is like putting a bandaid on a bullet wound. The underlying problems are not being addressed, only masked. When the cash runs out, they will resurface with even greater severity. That is why the Obama administration is now talking about yet another package. They realize we are burning cash faster than they are printing it. Taking from the working class and giving to those that do not work, will not produce a happy ending !! The working class will continue to shrink and the dependent class expand. (Why work when the Government penalizes workers and rewards the unemployed)

Dear Sonofatrucker: This is a huge shell game. If tuition is subsidized at state schools that punishes private colleges like Marietta that don't have the subsidy. This money was to create jobs...what jobs have been created? More lies from Obama and Strickland. Time for change!

What a big end around pass on the taxpayers! Seems that the "STIM" package funded mainly projects that local taxpayers found too costly or too rediculous to pass by officials or by taxpayers on election levies. Keep working kids and grandkids. Your paying for it. And to my retire aged co-workers: Keep working! You can't afford retirement now. Wait till all the new hidden, back taxes hit us.

Anytime that someone is so down that they take their life or someone elses it is sad. I think we will see more and more reports like this due to the economy.

I dont see how the stimulus package is helping ohio with tuition cost in the schools when the state is taking away the funding that students need. I am a student myself at WSCC and they took away our Ohio college grant this summer because they said the state doesnt have the money for it. Whats next? Our federal grants also. Must be helping there pockets not the states.

If people want to kill themselves, fine. They do not have to take others with them.
