RENO - Charles E. Shankland, 77, of Reno, passed away at 1:51 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 27, 2009) at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Monroe County, Ohio, on Sept. 20, 1932, a son of James E. and Hazel McPeak Shankland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Forma Scientific and Pennington Bakery.

On Feb. 29, 1964, he married Marilyn P. Benson, who survives with three sons, Wayne (Renee) Shankland of Devola, Randy (Barbara) Shankland of Reno and Scott (Nikki) Shankland of Reno; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and brother, Robert Shankland of Macksburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (Sept. 29) at 2 p.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with the Rev. Gale Lauderman officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2 p.m. this afternoon.
