$152,500 bond for suspect in stabbing

Bond was set Monday at $152,500 for a Marietta College student accused of stabbing an area man early Sunday in an apparent robbery attempt.

If he is able to post the cash bond, MC sophomore Thomas G. Robison II, 19, of Apple Creek, must also agree to avoid contact with stabbing victim, David Scheimann, 33, of 713 Greene St., Marietta.

Also, Marietta Municipal Court Judge Janet Dyar-Welch ordered that Robison would not be able to drink alcohol or be in an establishment that sells alcohol by the drink.

Robison is accused of following Scheimann home from a downtown bar early Sunday and then stabbing the man in the stomach after he refused to turn over his wallet.

Scheimann had been listed in stable condition at Marietta Memorial Hospital with wounds to his hands and stomach; however, a nursing supervisor said Monday evening that information on Scheimann was unavailable.

The 2:30 a.m. incident took place near Scheimann's residence in the 700 block of Greene Street. Scheimann was able to walk about 200 feet from where he was stabbed to a nearby Speedway gas station where employees called for help.

Robison was arrested at his dorm after people he came into contact with at the college reported the man confessed to being involved in an altercation.

In addition to a first-degree felony robbery charge, Robison was charged with a first-degree misdemeanor probation violation.

As part of his sentencing from a November 2008 drunk driving charge, Robison is on a year's probation.

As a result, before attempting to post bond, Robison could be forced to serve the 33 days that were suspended in exchange for no new offenses.

At Monday's arraignment, Robison requested the assistance of the Washington County Public Defender's Office.

An Oct. 7 preliminary hearing was set on the robbery charge. The court will examine the probation violation charge on Oct. 9.

I can't believe The Marietta Times allows slanderous, unsubstantiated claims on their website, such as MOBY89's. We know who MOBY89 is and why he would make such a comment, as he has skeletons in HIS closet, and we'll leave it at that. The ONLY truthful comment he made, is that he went to school with Thomas. For the record, Thomas Robison II is a very outgoing and personable young man who has MANY friends. Thomas' father died BEFORE he was born in a work-related accident. It's very disheartening that the fine folks of Marietta seem to think that he's a spoiled rich kid, because he attends a private college...when nothing could be further from truth! Thomas has NO criminal record. What transpired is a tremendous shock and totally out of character for him. If people really knew Thomas or some of the facts that they DON'T know, they would probably feel different about some of the things that have been posted here. God Bless Thomas and David!

old blue eyes...just because you wish something so, does not make it so. Your "friend" is a vicious dog who armed himself and went after an unarmed man to make himself feel strong. Let see how strong he feels when the verdict is handed down. Rabid, hostile animals are dealt with accordingly by the system.

That being said, the old saying has some sense--"Nothing good happens after midnight". I am not playing blame the victim, because he truly is a victim. But common sense should tell you that drinking in a bar until 2 am can have unpleasant results. Bar owners can defend their businesses all they want, but everyone knows that the underage kids flock to the places most likely to serve them. And even if they aren't serving underage, they are certainly continuing to serve people that should have been cut off. Those kids 'staggering' out at 2 am didn't just suddenly become overly drunk--they worked up to it and were probably served until last call. Money trumps social conscious.

GoAskAlice- Yes, society as a whole is spiralling downward. But I still think Marietta is relatively safe. The fact that this story made such headlines proves how unusual such an incident is--in most cities, it wouldn't have even made the news. If you follow the crime reports, most are burglary, domestic issues, and/or involve drugs and alcohol. Very few are random acts between strangers. Most of us can walk these streets at night without fear, and if you can find a crime-free city, go for it.

I don't know either person involved but this is America and we all have the right to a trail before we pronounce Guilt. That said I have observed that it seem's the Court System is a little easy on crime in Washington County. Question are Puppy Mills Legal in Ohio, what about the growing of Pot, I could go on with other stories that I have read in the Times. I don't live in Ohio which was a state I thought was tough on Crime. In my state Ca. we don't allow puppy mills and if you have a mini pot farm your going to prison, heck we have a law that requires you to wear helmets when riding motorcycles. I think the media has labeled the wrong state the left state. If you don't want Crime you need to get Tough on Crime.

Well I apologize but I'm slightly heartless in the moment considering the world is judging one of my close friends based on half of what probally really happened.

Hey, did we get a good reason as to why everyone from MC confessed to underage drinking in our bars. With a budget deficit, you would think that the law would hammer a few more drinkers, bartenders and proprieters to fill the coffers. while doing so, it just may send a message and save a life... VOTE THE DARN JUDGES OUT!!!!!! WE GRIPE ABOUT THEIR SOCIAL AGENDAS, THEIR LENIENCY AND FAVOR TOWARDS THE CRIMINAL AND NOT THE RESIDENT. YET WE, NOT ME, CONTINUE TO VOTE IDEOLOGY OR PARTY ALLOWING THIS CRAP TO CONTINUE.

Low bond means that this guy might be on the streets soon if he has one friend or family member willing to help him out. This is a great example of this city's less than tough stance on crime. We will be lucky if this guy gets any kind of real jail time. With a justice system operating like this is it any wonder that crime in our area keeps getting worse?

Again, I believe that citizens should demand action from those public servants like police, prosecutors and judges. Unless we get people in office and on the bench that will make examples of the predators we can expect to see similar headlines from here on out.

I agree with photoryan. I drove photoryan and David to school almost every day our senior year. On days that it snowed David would have my car cleaned off before I left the house. I never asked him to do it, he's just a good person. Does the $152,500 mean this jerk only has to post $15,250? I hope MC can suspend/expel him for some sort of code of conduct violation.

GoAskAlice needs to be a bit more discreet in making statements. The family could come back on this person in a saw suit if they want to.

got some more info....the abdominal cut is not too deep, he should be ok, the cuts on his hands however are pretty severe. Dave and I taught martial arts at the YMCA for years. When faced with an attacker that has a knife we were always taught to expect to get cut and to use that cut to keep you from getting killed. I can't confirm but i'm willing to bet that he grabbed the blade to keep it from sticking into his gut. It may have saved his life.

I figure his parents is paying his way through college. If they can afford to pay for him to go to MC the 10% would just pocket change
