A Marietta College student accused of stabbing a local man in a Sept. 27 robbery attempt waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Marietta Municipal Court.

MC sophomore Thomas G. Robison II, 19, of Apple Creek, remains in the custody of the Washington County Jail on a $150,000 bond. His case will now be presented to a Washington County grand jury for possible indictment.

David Scheimann, 33, of 713 Greene St., Marietta, sustained injuries to his hands and stomach in the attack. He was released from Marietta Memorial Hospital within the past week, according to hospital officials.

Assistant Washington County Prosecutor Susan Vessels said Robison is likely to face additional charges when the case goes before a grand jury. Robison is currently charged with first-degree felony robbery, which carries a possible 10-year prison sentence.

"I would expect felonious assault would also be considered," Vessels said.

Felonious assault, a second-degree felony, carries a possible eight-year prison sentence.

According to police, Robison followed Scheimann home from a downtown bar and then stabbed the man in the stomach after he refused to turn over his wallet. The 2:30 a.m. incident took place near Sheimann's residence in the 700 block of Greene Street.

Scheimann was able to walk about 200 feet from where he was stabbed to a nearby Speedway gas station where employees called for help.

Robison was arrested at his dorm after people he came into contact with at the college reported the man confessed to being involved in an altercation.

Bad choices lead to bad consequences, it is unfortunate that a student of Marietta College has to resort to this sort of action. I wish him the worst of luck, and hope that he realizes stabbing people should be attempted murder (but knowing this town it will not be). Guess he will have to learn the hard way.

Yeah I agree pedohiles to molest your children are not in short supply. People to mug you , knife you, or beat you half to death after dark are not in short supply. Public corruption is not in short supply. Try to find a real job in this town or a little respect then there are great big shortages there. Justice is a little short often here.

StreetProse I totally agree! Attempted manslaughter for sure!!!! This guy could have been killed! A knife to the stomach???? People die from that! I have walked home many of nights and was never concerned.. we have pedophiles to deal with and now this. I just hope the court system gives this guy the MAX!!!! And that pedophile as well! Marietta needs to take a stand and show that pedophiles and knife wielding assailants will not be tolerated here!!!! Isnt that one of the few pathetic reasons why live here? little to no crime? and now break-ins galore.. you get your car messed with and the cops do nothing.. but very quick to write you for a BS parking ticket???

This should be a good warning to people about being careful when out at night, especially if you are alone. Robinson has been identified and this should make the case an easy one to prosecute. I hope the people on this board don't judge the college because of this happening.

"I would expect felonious assault would also be considered," Vessels said. --------------------------------------------

How's that for an understatement?

Felonious assault usually entails kicking/hitting a person while they are on the ground or incapacitated to some degree.

A guy who wields a knife needs to be charged with malicious wounding at the very least and most agree that the charge SHOULD be attempted murder.

A glorified assault charge is a travesty.
