This is the third year for the event sponsored by the Belpre Historical Society, said society member Nancy M. Sams.
This year's event will include the Pioneer Antique Power Association, which will be showing antique tractors, hit-and-miss engines and other heritage power equipment.
A number of heritage demonstrations are planned, including blacksmith Dan Hinton, farrier Brian Farcus, tinsmith Fred Boston, Revolutionary War artifacts with Bill Reynolds, chair caner Mindy King, members of the Gepetto's Wood Carving Club, spinning, weaving and quilting. Other activities include heritage quilts and antique quilting stitches, rug looming and Underground Railroad history.
Light refreshments will be available, and donations will be accepted.
"Last year's event was very successful, and people really enjoyed being able to talk with our heritage artisans about the history of these crafts, which have been passed down through generations," said Sams. "This type of an event - open to the public - brings families into our museum, makes them aware of the many artifacts that we have on display, gives them the opportunity to learn about local history and have fun at the same time."
Many new items have been donated to the museum for exhibit in recent years. Those include a flax breaker, a portable beam-boring machine, an antique cultivator and a circa-1923 canoe. Other attractions at the museum include the general store, the exhibit barn, the newly redecorated Victorian Era Room and the gift shop.
The Belpre Historical Society accepts donations of historical artifacts that belonged to a Belpre-area family, have some significance as to time and place and/or would be acceptable within an exhibit that the society is developing, such as its general store, Sams said.
"Every item has a history, and the donors are always willing to share the stories with the volunteer staff, who in turn share the history with visitors. Also, we are increasing our genealogy resources and would like to have copies of family histories. Currently we have Belpre Township and Spencer Funeral Home records plus veterans information," she said.
The Farmers Castle Museum Education Center is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays through October and other times by appointment. Groups are especially welcome. Lifetime memberships plus student, family and business memberships are available.
