SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING FORMER COUNTY MAINTENANCE DIRECTOR:
The Washington County Sheriff's Office and Major Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant today in an investigation of a former county maintenance director for allegedly receiving kickbacks from a Meigs County vendor.
According to a release from Sheriff Larry Mincks, the search warrant was requested in Meigs County Common Pleas Court after an informant reported hearing former maintenance director Chuck Moody bragging about receiving kickbacks from Sam Seckman, owner of Universal Products in Long Bottom. The sheriff's office says 143 cases of light bulbs were ordered, but only 38 could be accounted for.
Mincks said cash and financial records were seized from the business. No arrests have been made at this time.
COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ANNOUNCES H1N1 CLINICS:
The Washington County Health Department today announced H1N1 flu shot clinics for students at county schools and the general public, starting this week.
School clinics will begin Tuesday at Salem-Liberty and Lowell Elementary schools. The health department and some local schools will be closed for Veterans Day on Wednesday, but the vaccinations will resume Thursday at Beverly Center Elementary and Fort Frye High School.
Student vaccinations will continue in the Belpre City School District Nov. 16 and 18 and the Frontier Local district Nov. 17 and 19.
Regularly scheduled public H1N1 flu shot clinics will begin at the health department, 342 Muskingum Drive, on Friday, and will continue from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays for as long as a supply of vaccine is available.
People eligible to receive vaccines at these clinics include:
Children ages 6 months to 18 years who not receiving vaccine at school.
Pregnant women.
Health care workers and emergency medical service personnel.
Adults caring for children under the age of 6 months.
Persons under the age of 64 with chronic medical conditions.
OHIO GASOLINE PRICES DOWN 8 CENTS A GALLON:
COLUMBUS (AP) - Ohio gasoline prices are down 8 cents from last week, falling for the first time after a month of steady increases.
A survey from auto club AAA, the Oil Price Information Service and Wright Express puts the current statewide average for regular-grade gas at about $2.58 per gallon, compared to $2.66 last Monday.
The dip in prices follows a 35-cent jump from early October to early November.
A year ago at this time, Ohio motorists were paying just $2.00 a gallon for regular.
The cost of oil also gave up some ground last week as a higher than expected U.S. unemployment rate stirred worries that consumer spending will remain sluggish.

As a former Federal employee for 20 years my background was checked each time I changed jobs. There are several web sites available that are used by private companies for the same purpose for a reasonable fee. Why doesn't county government make use of that? Cheaper in the long run.

Will the prosecuting attorney come to Moody's rescue again? Maybe someone asked him to do it. You know the just following orders loophole.

Ida may have gone from a hurricane to a tropical storm but they still shut the refineries down for a day or two until it passes. Which to us means they will want more per gallon of fuel because they got behind.

This happened for real in Trumbull County just a few years ago. Same situation, and the amount of the kickbacks was over $500,000. The perp is now in jail, but has cancer. 20 year term, 50+ years old. What a waste.

If gasoline was free everywhere else in the world, Marietta's price would be close to 3 bucks. Nothing new here. We continue to pay the price. Speedy raises their price in the morning, one cannot get inot their lot, peole are still paying the price when right down the street Starfire waits to lunch to change and a person could save money, BUT nooooooo, they like a free coffee with that speedy card. Does not make sense to me.

I heard on FOX Business News (By the way, If you don't have it, DEMAND IT!) that the so-called hurricane caused the price of a barrel of oil to go up 2 dollars so look for gas to go up again.

Gas prices rise 30-40 cents, then they drop 8-9 cents and the pundits point to improvement..."see, prices are falling". At $2.58 per gallon, that's still a 29% increase over a year ago.
