WOOSTER - Howard M. Ely, 74, of Wooster, died Wednesday (Nov. 4, 2009) at his residence.

Howard was born June 4, 1935, in Marietta, to Howard Hayes and Glenna Evelyn (McNiece) Ely, and had served in the U.S. Army for three years, having fought in the Korean War.

He worked for The Gertenslager Co. for 24 years, retiring in 1998, and enjoyed music and spending time with friends and family.

He will be missed by his children, Cindy Lynn (Rick) Chidester of Marietta and Milton Ely of Fernandina Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Monty (Edna) Ely of Barlow.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, John Ely.

Services were Saturday (Nov. 7, 2009) at Roberts Funeral Home, Sherwood Chapel, Wooster. Internment was in Sherwood Memorial Gardens, Wooster, where military rites were held.
