Republican candidate for governor plans appearances Thursday

Republican Ohio gubernatorial candidate John Kasich is scheduled to visit Marietta for a series of events Thursday afternoon.

Kasich will begin his visit by addressing the Marietta Noon Rotary at the Marietta Country Club, after which he will tour a local manufacturing facility.

From 4 to 5 p.m. the public is invited to a meet-and-greet event with Kasich at the Fine Art and Framing Gallery, 220 Front St.

Afterward, a cocktail reception fundraiser for Kasich is slated for 5 to 6 p.m. on the first floor of The Galley, 203 Second St. A limited number of tickets are available for this event at $50 each.

To purchase tickets in advance, call Leslie Haas at 373-5664. Any tickets remaining will be available at the door on Thursday evening.

Kasich is considered the GOP front-runner in the 2010 gubernatorial race, looking to unseat Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland.

Kasich was elected to the Ohio Senate in 1978 and the U.S. House of Representatives in 1982. In his nine terms in Congress, he served as chairman of the House Budget Committee from 1995 to 2000.

After leaving Congress, he served as a political commentator and host of "Heartland with John Kasich" on the Fox News Channel. He is also a two-time New York Times best-selling author.

Press secretary Rob Nichols said Thursday's events are part of Kasich's efforts to visit all 88 of the state's counties leading up to the 2010 gubernatorial election.

Does anyone know why Kasich stepped out of Congress? Just wondering?

If there's one thing we don't do is overlook the misdeeds of our own -- we hang them out to dry faster than anyone else. And we sure wouldn't overlook issues with John Kasich...nor would he! It's the left side that espouses the "anything goes" theory. He IS a man with integrity and values and one who's actually had a job and a record to be proud of! That anyone could defend or support Big BAD Ted and his "actions" as governor astounds me. REALLY?!?!?!

I love it! On the same day more layoffs are announced in the valley, all the libs are on here with their usual hate-the-conservatives crap. Keep on keeping on libs, the state of Ohio can indeed sink deeper into the abyss, just ask your lefty neighbors up in Michigan.

You guys are a hoot!

Happy Veterans Day and THANKS to all who serve or have served.

Hmmm. I guess my last post upset some do-gooder out there. Just remember, no matter who is the Gov, only the State Legislature can "change" things. The Gov just goes along for the ride.

Which scapegoat string-puppet should we pick? The Elite Puppet Masters will tell us.

boots65, I doubt you know the diffence by evidence of your post. I must also say that anytime a conservative is exposed as anything other than upstanding, they are usually run out on a rail. When a D is proven to be all you mentioned plus a theif, you all keep voting them in. Like the long list of names?

yes, i know the difference between Dennis Kucinich and John Kasich. If you all think Kasich is squeaky clean, you may be wrong. Then again, right-wing consevatives tend to overlook morals, sexuality, etc.

I haven't really found much about him that stinks. Other than he's a politician.

I find it amusing that Boots mixes him up with the nut from Cleveland and when it is pinted out Boots still does not like him. I wonder if Boots knows the nut from Cleveland has a D by his name and anything at all about Kasich

I saw that he aided in Clinton's welfare reform bill. On the other hand, he supported legislation banning assault weapons. Not that it's a big issue for me, but if you're a staunch NRA supporter, it might be.

"In 1995, when Kasich assumed the position of Budget Chairman, the U.S. Federal Budget had a deficit of roughly -$163 billion, and upon the conclusion of his tenure as Budget Chairman, the U.S. Federal Budget had a surplus of roughly +$236 billion"

I've read up on him a bit. He seems to vote along the democrats line and the republicans. But does seem to be very fiscally responsible. Sounds like a good candidate so far.

Well, Boots, I guess if you don't support a guy who helped balance the guy who helped balance the federal budget, who believes in hard work and personal responsibility, who is a family man with good character, who believes in doing the right thing for the people of Ohio rather than the lunatic left, then I see why you would support Strickland or any other democrat for that matter.

Um - Boots, this is John Kasich, NOT Cleveland's Dennis Kucinich - HUGE difference! John Kasich will be an awesome governor!

I kinda look at it this way...at least Kasich has held a private sector job and knows something about economy 101. Or should our gov. seat lend itself to on-the-job training like the presidency?

Indian - I'm curious as to why you think that Kasich's background with Fox News and an author disqualifies him from being a legitimate candidate?

If you think Strickland was the wrong choice, think twice (or three times) before voting for Kasich. He's a whack job...just talk to any Cleveland area resident (or listen to his crazy views).
