Fact Box

Thursday (County) Frontier Local Schools; (City) Marietta High School.
Friday (County) 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the health department; (City) Marietta High School.
More than 600 students in the Fort Frye Local district received the H1N1 vaccination this week, with more county school districts on the immunization schedule next week.
Belpre City and Frontier Local schools will have in-school immunization clinics with the Washington County Health Department this coming week, while the Marietta City Health Department will visit Marietta High School and revisit Marietta Middle School.
Nearly 300 of the middle school's 680 students got the H1N1 shot this week, said city health department director of nursing Vickie Kelly, but there are more interested.
"We're going back on Tuesday because there were a few who were either absent or we didn't make it to their classroom," she said. "We want to get to everyone."
The city health department also visited St. Mary Elementary this week, vaccinating 97 of 187 students and Ewing School on Friday, where 81 students were immunized. There are more than 200 students at the school but that includes preschool, school-age, early intervention and WASCO clients, and not everyone was eligible.
In addition to the 600 students immunized by the Washington County Health Department earlier in the week, a clinic held Friday for high-risk groups drew more than 300 people, said Washington County Health Commissioner Kathleen Meckstroth.
"We had people lined up before we even got here this morning," she said Friday. "It's been a steady line all day."
There was enough vaccine to meet the need, she said.
Immunizations will continue Monday as the county department travels to Belpre schools and the Marietta health department has immunizations by appointment only for children 6 months to 5 years old.
"We haven't gotten to the babies and the pre-schoolers as much yet and we do have those doses," said Kelly. "We're doing by appointment only to try to decrease the wait time and the children being out... we don't want them waiting in a long line."
By late Friday afternoon, there were more than 130 appointments scheduled, she said.
Those interested should call the health department at 373-0611, and dial 0 to make an appointment.
Visits to the Wolf Creek Local School district and the Washington County Career Center are planned for the week of Thanksgiving, said Meckstroth, while clinics for Warren Local Schools are still being scheduled.
