Community lunch at First Baptist Church A “From Caring to Sharing Our Lunch” free community lunch is being planned from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church hall, 301 Fourth St., Marietta. The event is being sponsored by the church’s Singles and Doubles Class. ¯ For more information: 373-1273. Meeting for holiday dinner volunteers A meeting has been scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, for anyone interested in volunteering to help with the 12th annual community Thanksgiving dinner. The dinner is being hosted by Norwood United Methodist Church, but other churches and area residents also help with this dinner every year. According to coordinator Tom Insley people are needed to help deliver dinners, to decorate and set up tables and chairs, to help clean up, and to cut up and box up desserts and rolls. Monetary donations are also needed to help buy the food. The dinner, which is free and open to everyone, will feature a hot traditional Thanksgiving dinner including turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and pumpkin pie. It will be served from noon to 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at Norwood United Methodist Church. Take-out dinners will be available, and meals will be delivered to those who can’t attend and call in an order (preferably by Nov. 24). To place an order, call the church and leave your name, phone number, how many dinners are wanted, and whether turkey or ham is preferred. Giveaway Saturday at Lawrence Baptist Lawrence Baptist Church will be hosting a free give-away from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church. A large variety of items, including clothes, toys, baby supplies, household items and some furniture, will be available. The church’s Women’s Ministries group will also be serving free soup and finger sandwiches during the give-away. The public is invited to attend and to take whatever they need. Chili cook-off at Gilman UMC Nov. 20 Gilman United Methodist Church will be having a chili cook-off from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 20, at the church at 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. Another soup will also be available. Cornbread, pie and beverages will also be served. Cost is $5. The event is being sponsored by the church’s United Methodist Men. Homecoming this weekend at church Reno Memorial Christian Church in Reno will be having a Church Homecoming Weekend Saturday and Sunday. The event will begin with the annual Thanksgiving dinner at 6 p.m. on Saturday. A ceremony will follow. A special homecoming service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday with Don Seevers delivering the message. ¯ For more information: 374-4117. Reunion concert by the Williams Family A special reunion concert by the original Williams Family is being held at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, at Cornerstone Gospel Church, 3100 17th Ave., Vienna, W.Va. This concert will feature Eric, Melody and J.B. Williams for an evening featuring songs Eric wrote and the family performed. Free dinner is on Thanksgiving day A free Thanksgiving dinner is being served at noon on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26, at First Christian Church, 1400 Washington Ave., Parkersburg. This free dinner is for everyone, including visitors and people of the community. Anyone who would like to volunteer to help should contact the First Christian Church at (304) 485-5253. Donations will be accepted. Campus Encounter Day at OVU Nov. 20 Ohio Valley University in Vienna, W.Va., is holding a Campus Encounter Day on Friday, Nov. 20, as a way of providing an an opportunity for high school juniors and seniors, and their parents, to explore a Christian, liberal arts campus. Registration will be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. in the Stotts Administration Center lobby on the main campus. The day is free and is open to all high school juniors and seniors and their parents. Students will be able to attend classes, talk to current OVU students and faculty, explore potential academic majors, tour the campus and enjoy a free lunch prepared by OVU’s dining service.
