Church celebrates 20 years

November 14, 2009
From local reports

The Celebration Center of Marietta, at 822 Front St., is celebrating 20 years of ministry in Marietta.

Originally located on Colegate Drive, the church opened its doors on Nov. 5, 1989, as New Covenant Word Ministries. It was a church plant by the Celebration Center in Belpre, formally known as Word of Faith. The name of the church changed to The Celebration Center of Marietta in 1996, then it moved to its present location at 822 Front St. in November 1996. In November 1998, the church opened Pioneer Pete Day Care Center, which operates today.

The man who had the vision to plant the church in Marietta, Pastor Tony Atkinson, will be speaking at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22. He pastored at the Belpre Celebration Center for 30 years before moving to Virginia three years ago with his wife, Sharon, pastor of New Life Christian Ministries in Roanke. Speaking at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, will be the first pastor of the church, the Rev. Steve Willis. And at 10 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, Chris Holland will be speaking. He and his wife, Vicki, pastored the church from 1994 to 1999.

Pastors Gordie and Peggy Deer, pastoring the church since October 1999, invite the community and previous members of the church to celebrate with them during these special services.

The Celebration Center of Marietta is a member of the International Pentecostal Holiness Church headquartered in Oklahoma City. Their Web site is www.tccofmarietta.org .
