Waterford woman killed in crash

A Sunday afternoon crash near Lowell killed a Waterford woman and remains under investigation, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Fatally injured was Anna M. Copen, 47, who was a passenger on a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was being operated by her husband, Harold J. Copen, of Waterford.

According to patrol Sgt. William Boyd, the 1:35 p.m. crash occurred when Copen failed to negotiate a slight curve to the left on Cats Creek Road as he was driving southbound, about two-tenths of a mile from Ohio 60.

The motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway, overturned and ejected both occupants, Boyd said. Neither rider was wearing a helmet.

A medical helicopter landed near the crash site for possible transport; however, a decision was made to transport the victim to Marietta Memorial Hospital by squad where she was pronounced dead.

Investigating officers said they are unsure what caused the wreck. There was no indication of impairment or reckless operation, Boyd said.

"At this point, we don't know if this is a situation where (the operator) was unfamiliar with the road or if something happened with his vehicle or equipment that led to the crash," Boyd said.

According to a release issued by the patrol, the wreck left Anna Copen trapped under the motorcycle. Harold Copen had minor visible injuries and was not treated.

The patrol was assisted at the scene by members of the L-A Volunteer Fire Department and Lowell Police Department.

I am an upcoming member of the opota course set to begin in jan. I have only met buck 3 times, but I know in that little time what a nice caring man he is. I brought my 2 year old son in to his office and buck kept him occupied while i did paperwork. I am saddened to hear of this( i just found out today when I called buck about an opota related question) my thoughts and prayers are with him and his entire family.

I second all of what OutLaw07 posted about your brother- he would give the shirt off his back for someone. If not for Buck I would have dropped out of the academy by now.

vspradley: Know that you, Buck and your entire family remain in our thoughts and prayers. If there is anything that I, or any other cadet in our class can do, just say the word.

May God bless Buck, you and all of your family during this difficult time.

Outlawo7, Thank you again. I talked with my niece tonight and I heard that there was a car that wrecked there too. I hope that no one was injured there but you are right something needs to be done with that spot. My brother might not be strong enough to do something right now but I am going to try and fight for him. Its my turn to step up to the plate and do something for him now.

Since reading the comments on here and what Mr Bauer wrote in the news I have since wrote a letter to him with how I feel. I did receive a very nice email back from him and it was very positive. So I want to thank everyone who knows my brother for all the wonderful words that I have got to read about him. Thank You Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I will be traveling up there first thing in the morning to be with all of them.

Very sorry for this family, and I agree it is not the law to wear a helmet so why is it alwasy the first thing they bring up?

And if anyone cares on my way to marietta tonight there was a car rolled of the hill in the exact same spot where this accident occured. So lets judge them too on their wreck. Obviously there is something on that road that needs fixed 2wks in nearly 2hrs apart in the same spot

For all you judgemental people out there. This is the kind of guy that if you need $500 and he only had $400 he would give to you and probably be at the bank trying to get a loan for $100 to give to you to help you out. This man would bend over backwards to help anyone that he could help whether he knew you or not.. So why don't we show this family some respect. If you have negetive comments why not just keep to yourself or someone you kno instead of posting them on here. Thats the last thing him or his family needs to get on here and see especially at a time like this.. Post some positive comments for the love of god

Outlaw, you are so right. He has always been there for loads of people and now people want to judge them. What he and his family needs now is the people that he was there for needs to be there for him and his whole family. They need prays and support. So I am begging everyone not to judge this couple for what hundreds of us that ride bikes or are passangers have done, but just to stop and give them support, positive sayings, be there for that family. I will be there tomorrow.

If she was pinned under, I don't think a helmet would have helped!

Very bad for the ones left behind, as we have just lost someone who was a very good person also, but remember this is just a blog for people to express their opinions. I would advise the relatives not to read the postings because some of them are bound to be hurtful!

Seems like lately so many of the good ones are leaving us and we can't understand why.

VSPRADLEY HE IS MY INSTRUCTOR SO I AGREE WITH U THAT PEOPLE ARE JUDGING THIS WHO STORY WRONG THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT KINDA PEOPLE UR BROTHER AND HIS WIFE WAS.. HE WOULD DO ANYTHING TO HELP OUT ANYONE.. AND I BET HALF THE PEOPLE COMMENTING ON THIS DOESN'T WEAR A SEAT BELT IN A CAR AND THERE IS NO DIFFERNCE OTHER THAN FOR THE LAW SAYING U HAVE TO WEAR A SEATBELT. SO I DONT THINK ANYONE ON HERE SHOULD BE JUDGING THESE 2 PEOPLE THAT THEY DO NOT KNO.

That was my brother and sister-n-law you all are talking about.Let me tell you something, he has just lost his wife,a mother and grandmother. I just like them I do not wear a helmet either because it is my decision.Putting a comment in there like and they were not wearing a helmet. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who had dreams with his wife. So before you go judging please know the whole story. Bcause he is my BROTHER and I could not ask for a better one.

I agree deputydawg 100percent. And people is only getting the newspapers side of the story and wtaps side. so id say b4 they judge this couple they need to find out the truth

Why is it important to report they were not wearing a helmet? It is not against the law,so why report it?

11-16-09 1:48 PM
i agree thank you very much doglvr2.. people get on here and say stuff with out thinking how it may offend that family they may take stuff really personal hard to tell but this is not the place for negative thought especially when someone lost their life

doglvr2

I do not know this couple, but I agree with outlaw07. It was their decision not to wear helmets. We shouldn't judge them on that. It is their choice. They are adults. I will be praying for the family, sounds like it was just a tragic accident. And the family really doesn't need to see comments like the one Crandall left. Might be your opinion which is fine, just think of families left behind before posting negative thoughts.
