Hunter 1st team All-OAC

From staff reports
POSTED: November 25, 2009

AUSTINTOWN - The Ohio Athletic Conference Office has released its 2009 All-OAC Football Teams, and senior running back Lamar Hunter highlighted Marietta College's five selections with All-OAC first team honors.

Junior defensive end Adam Tate and senior offensive lineman George Frisch received All-OAC second team honors, while junior offensive lineman Cameron Kiger and sophomore defensive tackle Cody Andrews both earned All-OAC honorable mention for Marietta, who finished the season with a 3-7 record.

Hunter emerged as the latest in a long line of standout running backs for Marietta. He is the first Pioneer back to earned All-OAC first team honors since 2004 and joined the likes of Dallas Garber (1960), Mark Glasser (1974), Mark Boy (1976, 1977), Bob Jones (1979), Phil Schmucker (1983, 1985), Evan Lipp (1986, 1987), Jamesie Cua (1988, 1989), Curt Weikart (1994, 1995), Dante Brown (1996, 1997), Kenneth Sasu (1999, 2000) and Steven Wagner (2004) as Marietta running backs to have earned first team honors from the OAC.

Hunter, an All-OAC honorable mention pick in 2008, finished the regular season as the OAC's leading rusher, averaging a league-best 114.6 yards.

Despite missing 1 full game with an injury, he compiled 1,031 yards and 6 touchdowns on 224 carries. Hunter became the 18th Pioneer to rush for 1,000 yards in a season and his 1,031 total ranks 16th in school history. He ran for a season-high 158 yards on 24 attempts at Heidelberg and had five games in which he finished with over 145 yards. Hunter also ranked fourth on the team with 11 catches for 95 yards and 1 touchdown.

Tate had a breakout year on the defensive line as a junior in 2009. The defensive end finished with 53 total hits, which tied for third on the squad. He also led Marietta with 11.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in 2009.

Tate had a career-high 9 total tackles against No. 1 Mount Union.

Andrews helped Tate on the Pioneers' defensive line for a second straight season. He finished the year with 37 total hits, including five tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Andrews had a season-best five stops on four different occasions in 2009.

Frisch and Kiger anchored the offensive line as tackles again in 2009. The duo helped lead the blocking schemes for Hunter as he led the OAC in rushing with 1,031 yards. They also helped protect sophomore quarterback Andrew Keller, who threw for nearly 1,300 yards this season.
